The Presidential Campaign in Costa Rica has started already and the Costa Rican Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has everything ready for Ticos to be able to cast their vote even if they live abroad.

In total, almost 31 thousand Ticos that live out of the country will be able to vote next February 4th; the majority of these voters are in the United States with a total of 20,000 voters; 120 are registered in China, 70 in Japan, 77 in Israel, 30 in Turkey, 30 in Cuba, and the rest are in countries like Jamaica, India, Irak, among others.

The number of people voting from out of Costa Rican frontiers has tripled since 2014 when the registered voters reached only 12 thousand.

 

According to the latest survey carried out by the Center of Investigation and Political Studies (CIEP) of the University of Costa Rica, 40% of all voters still don’t have a preferred candidate. The survey included interviews with 1029 people; out of these 57% confirmed they will vote February 4th, but out of this a 40.3 % said they haven’t decided who they will vote for.

These numbers show that voters are more indecisive this time than four years back when only 29% of voters had not chosen their preferred candidate.

This same survey shows Antonio Alvarez Desanti, candidate for PLN has the biggest support so far with a 19.6%; he is followed by Juan Diego Castro from PIN with 12.6%, in third place candidate Rodolfo Piza from PUSC with 11% and in fourth place Carlos Alvarado from PAC (party currently in power) with just 6.3%; the rest of the candidates received percentages lower than the margin of error for the survey.
