The practice of Golf in Costa Rica has gone from being a hobby practiced by a few to a well-organized sport that now forms players since a young age, the country in fact is one of the stops this May and for second consecutive year of the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica.

Considering the growth that this sport has experienced in the country in the past few years, the Costa Rica Golf Federation is working on bring the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC) in 2022.

The LAAC is the most important tournament of its kind in Latin America, it was created with the idea of further developing amateur golf throughout the region.

It was precisely this tournament that offered Costa Rican golfer Paul Chaplet the opportunity to play at the Augusta Masters, after he won the LAAC 2015 held in Dominican Republic.

“The LAAC is sponsored by the R&A (Royal and Ancient Golf Club entity that supports activities undertaken for the benefit of the sport of golf) and the Augusta Master . The people from Augusta visited Costa Rica to see the courses, we have been talking with R&A and they recommend doing an important tournament in Costa Rica. We have gained enough experience to be able to bring the LAAC”, commented Mauricio Musmanni President of the Golf Federation.

An event such as the LAAC airs in television in more than 120 countries around the world, which is why it would have to be held in an area such as Guanacaste to take advantage of the tourist attractions.
