During a press conference today The Nacional Soccer Federation (FEDEFUTBOL) officially presented today the new head coach of the male national soccer team,”La Sele” Uruguayan born Gustavo Matosas.

Matosas is a formal professional soccer player, he is 53 years-old and has managed 14 soccer teams, among them Mexican soccer club America and the Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal FC, this will be the first time he will direct a national team.

“It is a great honor for me to represent through the national soccer team an entire country it is a great challenge, I am very excited and I will take it on as if it were my own country”, commented Matosas, who also commented that he made his decision considering the great resources (players) that are available in the country as well as the project that is headed by the Federation.

Matosas will have the challenge of classifying Costa Rica for the next World Cup which takes place in Qatar 2022.

“The executive committee has named Gustavo Matosas, as head coach, who in a sincere an honest way agreed to take the National Team to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. His energy, his perseverance, character, commitment, authority, knowledge and intelligence are part of the virtues that he brings to the table and make him deserve being received in Costa Rica with trust and optimism”, stated Rodolfo Villalobos, president of the Federation.

Matosas will travel with “La Sele” to the next two friendlies to play against Mexico (October 11) and Colombia (October 16), he will not direct the team but will be observing the matches.
