Cultural project “Your City, Your Canvas” (Tu Ciudad, Tu Lienzo) is an initiative that works towards bringing more visibility to several metropolitan spaces through the use of urban art.
“Your City, Your Canvas” started out in 2015 with a mural in the south wall of the Magaly Movie Theater in Barrio La California, and last year it was responsible for the new look of the Presidente Hotel in downtown San José which now shows the work of Costa Rican artist Sergio Guillen with the mural “Buscando al gato”.
This year the selected site is the Casa del Parque Hostel in San José. For this purpose the Ministry of Culture and the Center of Artistic and Cultural Production is calling on artists that are interested in presenting their proposals to intervene the north, west and south facades of this building.
This project is part of the International Festival of Arts 2017. Artists will have time until May 18 o present their proposals .
The Hostel is located across the National Park, a point of reunion for many and an area of high traffic. This is another of the initiatives of the local government to help embellish the city of San José and make it an attractive space.
Visual artists, designers, graphic designers, architects, painters, space designers and anyone else with an interest in the intervention of public spaces are welcome to participate submitting their proposal individually or collectively.
The proposals will be evaluated by a jury on June 2nd and the winner will receive a prize of $3,000 USD as well as the materials and necessary support to carry out the project. The winner will be announced July 3.
