Costa Rica’s National Soccer Team “La Sele” Starts its Preparation for the Russia World Cup 2018

Costa Rica’s national soccer team, La Sele, will begin its preparation for the Russial World Cup 2018 with two friendly matches, the first one on March 23 against Scotland and the second one against Tunisia on March 27.

Ramirez disclosed the list of 23 players he will be taking to these friendly matches:

Goal Keepers: Keylor Navas, Leonel Moreira and Kevin Briceño

Defenders: Cristian Gamboa, Ian Smith, Bryan Oviedo, Kendall Waston, Frrancisco Calvo, Ronald Matarrita, Johnny Acosta, Giancarlo Gonzalez, Oscar Duarte

Midfielders: Wilmer Azofeifa, David Guzman, Yeltsin Tejeda, Celso Borges, Ulises Segura, Rodney Wallace, Bryan Ruiz

Forwards: Daniel Colindres, Yendrick Ruiz, Josue Mitchel and Marco Ureña

Players that are usually summoned such as Pemberton, Bolaños and Vanegas were not considered this time around. Vanegas hasn’t shown a great level during the local tournament matches; Pemberton is injured, and Bolaños has not been in his best game since leaving the MLS three months ago. Ramirez clarified that they are still being considered to be part of the final World Cup team, but it will depend on their improvement in the next few months.

The team will begin training next week in Europe, local players will fly out this Sunday while players already in Europe will meet the team on Monday.

The game scheduled for March 23 will take place at 1:45 p.m. local time.

After these matches, the team won’t play again until June 3 at the Costa Rica National when it will measure up against Ireland. On June 4 they are scheduled to fly to Europe again where the players will finish their preparation with friendly games against England on June 7 and Belgium on June 11.
