“La Etapa Costa Rica del Tour de Francia” or Costa Rica’s stage by Le Tour de France, a franchise of “L’Etape du Tour”, is a recreation cycling event that takes place in several countries in the world with the purpose of promoting the sport but with the rules that apply in the famous Tour de France.

This is the first type that an event of this type will take place in Costa Rica, the organizing company is Sports & Travel Costa Rica in conjunction with the organizer of the Tour de France, A.S.O (Amaury Sport Organization), “We have been working on bringing this event to our country for years now, the license is costly, but we wanted to make the dream of many Costa Ricans a reality” said Cyril Bagues from Sports & Travel.

The Costa Rica Stage by Le Tour de France will be held May 27 and 28, 2017

Registrations are open since October 3rd and it can be done online or in the stands in Multiplaza Escazu and Multiplaza del Este. A pre-sale price applies to all those that register prior to October 30, but there is time to sign up through December 31, 2016.

There’s three different categories 25, 50 and 120 k.m. (15,20,75 miles), and three different inscription packages: Basic, Premium and V.I.P. the difference in each package has to do with what is included in each, for instance the V.I.P option includes everything from the Basic and Premium inscriptions plus massages, V.I.P. cocktail, access to V.I.P. area and sharing with the event ambassador, a former Tour de France champion that will be announced in the upcoming weeks, but it’s been said could be Miguel Induráin, Pedro Delgado or Oscar Pereiro.

The Costa Rica Stage is open to both national and international amateur cyclists, Sports & Travel expects to have the participation of at least 3000 local participants and 1000 foreigners. The route has yet to be defined but considering that this is the first edition it will likely stay in San Jose.
