The Turrialba Volcano has been once again presenting eruptions since 12:30 a.m. this Monday morning.

The eruption that took place at 12:30 a.m. presented a column that reached 500 meters above the crater and 3,840 meters above sea level (12,595.20).

Another explosion was registered at 9:20 a.m. this time with a column of 400 meters above the crater, this one is still carrying on. Neighboring communities have reported a strong smell of sulfur.

“Between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. the volcano has presented eruptive pulses with ash eruptions of short duration (less than 10 minutes) in a sporadic fashion. Smell like sulfur has been reported in areas such as San Juan de Santa Barbara, San Isidro de Heredia, San Rafael de Hereia, Fátima de Heredia, San Pablo de Heredia, San Carlos, Zarcero, Desamparados, Concepción de San Rafael, Cascajal de Coronado, Barva and San Joaquin de Flores Heredia. Ash fall has been reported in San Rafael de Coronado, Barva and Heredia”, reads the statement given by the National University’s Volcanology and Seismology Research Institute (OVSICORI).
