(EFE).- Cuban artist Tomas Sanchez’s work is the subject of “Paisaje,” an exhibition that opened this weekend at Costa Rica’s Museo de Arte Costarricense (Costa Rican Art Museum) in San Jose.

The theme of the traveling exhibition, which runs until Nov. 28 and features eight large-format paintings, is to illustrate the imperfections of nature and the essence of human existence.

The works are being shown for the first time in Costa Rica after being displayed for nearly a year at Havana’s Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.

Sanchez, who describes himself as “a painter of metaphors,” addresses a variety of themes in the works “La batalla,” “Adoracion,” “Antagonismo,” “Con la puerta abierta,” “Hombre crucificado en el basurero” and “Entre silencios,” among others.

The 68-year-old Sanchez, who has lived in Mexico, Costa Rica and Miami, Florida, told EFE that he painted “metaphors” about the human condition using landscapes to express himself.

“I set myself apart from the classic landscape artists in the sense that I don’t paint specific places, I seek impressions that to a large extent are influenced by the experience of meditating, mystical meditation,” the Cuban artist said. EFE
