Bogota, Sep 12 (EFE).– At least two people died and one was injured when a plane carrying members of a movie crew working on Tom Cruise’s upcoming thriller film “Mena” crashed in northwestern Colombia, local media reported.

The twin-engine N164HH crashed Friday in the municipality of San Pedro de los Milagros while covering a route between Santa Fe de Antioquia and Medellin, capital of Antioquia province, according to Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority, which confirmed the accident on Twitter.

The three film crew members riding on the plane were Alan David Purwin, Jimmy Lee Garland and Carlos Berl, according to local media. The news reports also said they were working on “Mena,” although authorities have not yet confirmed that information.

Purwin, who had worked in the past on movies such as “Transformers” and “Armageddon,” was reportedly part of the aerial cinematography team for “Mena.”

Cruise arrived in Colombia on Aug. 19 to shoot scenes for the upcoming film, attracting lots of media attention with his presence in Medellin, the Andean nation’s second city.

The famed American actor will play Barry Seal, a U.S. pilot and narcotics smuggler who worked for the notorious head of the now-defunct Medellin Cartel, Pablo Escobar, and later became an informant for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as part of a plea deal.

Production work on “Mena,” directed by Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity”), began in May in Georgia. EFE
