A thermal waterfall to the north of the Irazu Volcano in Costa Rica could be the highest of its kind in the country. With a fall of approximately 130 meters (426 ft) its hot water is the product of the action from the volcano.The Caliente River which is formed by thermal waters is found a few kilometers north of the volcano crater. The exact location is well known by local tourists, however, the Northern side also hosts two waterfalls, one 40 meters high and the other 130 meters but getting to them is very complicated.

Members of The Waterfall Trail had special permits to walk through private properties and they finally had to do a 100 meter rappel to arrive to the base of the first waterfall.

(…) This is the result of the efforts of a team of people that wish to show how unique Costa Rica is”, reads the post by The Waterfall Trail.

The Waterfall Trial is formed by a group of explorers and adventurers who started a journey 2 years ago documenting Costa Rica’s most beautiful waterfall. The group will be publishing a book in 2019 with their stories and photographs of the places they have visited and discovered in the country.

There currently isn’t documentation in the country listing all the different thermal waterfalls to confirm whether ‘La Gran Termal’ is indeed the 100% highest.
