New York, Jun 16 (EFE).- Real estate mogul Donald Trump said Tuesday that he is seeking the 2016 Republican Party presidential nomination.
“So, ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for president of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again,” he said during an event at New York’s Trump Tower.
Five years ago Trump analyzed the possibility of seeking the Republican Party nomination for the 2012 elections, but later backed out.
On Tuesday, however, he confirmed his intention to compete in order to win the White House in a speech with a decidedly nationalistic ring.
With his announcement, 12 politicos have now expressed their intention to run for the presidential candidacy of the Republican Party for the November 2016 elections.
In his speech, Trump assumed a nationalistic air, criticized China’s progress in the world economy and the presence of Mexican immigrants in the United States.
“Our country needs a truly great leader and we need a truly great leader now,” Trump said. “We need somebody that can take the brand of the United States and make it great again.” EFE
