Berlin, Nov 14 (EFE).– The 45-year-old German woman arrested as the possible mother of eight babies whose mortal remains were found in the home where she had lived in Bavaria, admitted Saturday to police that she had killed “several” of them immediately after they were born.

The suspect, who was sentenced to imprisonment without bail on suspicion of multiple murders, was located Friday in the late afternoon at a boarding house in Kronach, some 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the small town of Wallenfels where the little bodies had been found wrapped in towels and plastic bags.

The case came to light Thursday night when a neighbor found human remains, which turned out to be those of eight babies, though as yet neither their sex nor date of death has been established.

The woman in custody had lived in that house until several months ago, when she disappeared following a violent argument with her husband, with whom she has another three children.

The babies’ remains were found “in bad condition,” according to sources close to the investigation, and it will be necessary to await the results of the autopsies next week to determine the circumstances of their deaths.

According to German media, the woman and her husband, as well as their three children, as a family had close relations with many others in the town.

However, the woman herself said that once when drunk she told how she hid the bodies of babies in her house, something she yelled out loud about in her last argument with her husband before disappearing.

The Wallenfels case follows similar crimes in Germany, the worst of which was detected in 2005 in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, where nine infants were found buried in flowerpots.

The mother was sentenced to 15 years in prison in a case that shocked German public opinion, since what she did seems not to have aroused the slightest interest among family members or neighbors.

Her trial revealed that she got drunk to get ready to give birth, had the babies in secret, wrapped them in towels and, after making sure they were dead, stuffed them in plastic bags and buried them in flowerpots. EFE
