La Traviata the opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi will be on stage in Costa Rica at the Melico Salazar Theater in San José from July 23 through August 1st and with the musical direction of Arthur Fagen (main music director of the Atlanta Opera) and scenic direction of Argentinian José Darío Innella.

The National Lyric Company (CLN) announced the nine lyric singers selected for the main and secondary roles, among them Cuban-American lyric soprano Elizabeth Caballero who will have the role of Violetta Valéry; Italian tenor Massimiliano Pisapia will take on the role of Alfredo Germont; Giorgio Germon; baritone Fitzgerald Ramos will be Giorgio Germon (Alfredo’s Father) and mezzo-soprano Keren Padilla in the role of Flora Bervoix (Violeta’s friend) .

Arthur Fagen who was born in New York, is the music director of the Atlanta Opera since 2010 and has an opera repertory of more than 75 works. He has worked as a guest at the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls in Europe, Asia and South America.

José Darío Innella has experience with scenic direction in America and Europe such as the Covent Garden in London and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; he was part of the Jette Parker Young Artists Program of the Royal Opera House. “With a mirror facing the contemporary society, this new production of the Verdi opera highlights the pain and suffering hidden behind the glamour of the cameras; it digs deep in the mediatic tools and social networks – ruthless and overwhelming – which welcome those willing to expose their lives to the scrutiny of the public for impious entertainment and the inexhaustible consumption of the audience”, wrote Innella in his official website in reference to the staging.

The National Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Chorus will also be part of the show.

Tickets will have a cost of between ¢7,000 and ¢30,000 ($12.50 – $55.00) and can be purchased online through Specialticket.net or the Servimás locations (in the Mas x Menos and Walmart grocery stores).
