Theater in Costa Rica started about 130 years ago, and today there are many small theaters, the majority distributed in San José; however, and as it can be expected, the majority of the theater plays presented in Costa Rica are in Spanish, which means the growing English speaking population rarely gets to enjoy this form of entertainment in the country, many are also unaware that there is one theater in the country that presents plays in English, this is The Little Theatre Group.

The Little Theatre Group was founded in 1949 by Albert “Bert” Williams, it is a non-profit organization that offers quality English-language theater. They are located in Escazú, 300m East of Plaza Rolex, where they do play readings, movie nights, workshops, monologues, and even open mic nights. Some of their shows are taken to other venues.

This company usually produces four plays a year, it has close to 135 members, and it is constantly in search of new talent both for on stage and behind the scenes.

Join them for their next presentations this May, which include Hard Candy, a comedy in one act by Jonathan Rand, and Check Please?! Which follows a series of blind dinner dates that could not get any worse… until they do.
