FIFA’s ethics committee banned former Costa Rican soccer federation president Eduardo Li for life, which means he will not be allowed to get involved in any activity related to soccer. The FIFA ethics committee had announced back in February their decision to persue legal action against the former presidents of the Costa Rican (Li) and Guatemalan (Brayan Jiménez) soccer federations, based on the final report submitted by the investigatory chamber.

“FIFA’s ethic committee found Li guilty of breaking the governing body’s rules, specifically article 13 (General Rules of Conduct), 15 (Loyalty), 18 (Obligation to report, cooperate and hold accountability), 19 (Conflict of interests) and 21 (Bribery and Corruption) of the code of ethics. In consequence, he will not be able to ever again participate in activities related to soccer (administrative, sporting, or of any other nature), in the national or international areas”, states the press release.

Eduardo Li was arrested back in May 2015 in a hotel in Zurich, Switzerland, on an international corruption probe (FIFAGate); he pleaded guilty in October of 2016 in the New York Federal Court to racketeering and wire fraud.

So far, 16 people and 2 sports marketing companies have pleaded guilty to charges.
