On the morning of this Friday, April 21, the community of Golfito in Puntarenas, inaugurated the first stage of the Golfito Marina Village & Resort, a project of tourism attraction that hopes to increase the number of visitors to the Southern region of Costa Rica.
The official inauguration had the presence of Costa Rica’s President, Luis Guillermo Solís, the Minister of Tourism, Mauricio Ventura, other members of the government and special guests.

This first stage included 50 docking ports (14 for boats of 40 feet, 8 for yachts of 40 feet, 25 for yachts 60-90 feet, 2 for mega-yachts of 140 feet and 1 for a gigayacht); the fuel pier, security lighthouse, 26 parking spaces, office spaces for state services and 400 square meters of commercial space.

“Most of the residents of the South Pacific work in tourism, this project adds to the efforts done in the region to promote local economy and the generation of productive linkages, which is in line with the Model of Sustainable Tourism Development and the well-being of the communities”, stated Minister of Tourism Mauricio Ventura.

The total investment (all three stages) of this project is estimated in $50 million USD and it is expected to generate 400 direct jobs and 800 indirect jobs once it is concluded. The investment is of mixed capital (USA-CR) and 30% is being financed with owner resources while the other 70% comes from bank resources (Banco Nacional).

The construction of the second stage will begin June 2017 to be completed in approximately 14 months, and will have 82 docking ports, it will also include the Hotel Marina Club, a floating restaurant, 1500 square meters of commercial areas, parking for 68 cars, and entertainment areas. The last stage should to be done by 2020, and includes the construction of honeymoon suites, cabins an 52 lodging units, more parking spaces, spa and souvenirs shop.
