The Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) has identified five out of the nine man that robbed the Eurochronos jewelry and the Tiempo Global jewelry in Multiplaza Escazú and Plaza Colonial respectively this past October 31st and confirmed they are of Mexican origin.

The group reportedly entered the country at the end of October and stayed in different hotels in the San José area, which they abandoned after the robberies.

“They don’t have a fixed address in the country. We have identified five of them. The group is formed by around 15-20 men, one woman, all of them Mexican except for the woman who’s nationality is still unknown. Once here they got cars, hammers, and bb guns, since apparently they weren’t able to get fire arms”, explained Walter Espinoza, director of the Judicial Investigation Police.

The suspects that have been identified have the last names Albirde (23), Cortés (20), Pérez (22), Ríos (18) and Pérez (38); one of the man of last name Pérez has a criminal record in Mexico for aggravated assault.

The foreigners entered the country between October 25 and the 29.

The robberies in each of the locations occurred with 10 minutes of difference between one and the other.

“This is the first time they enter the country, we have the ID’s for five of them and know where they stayed. We don’t know yet it they received assistance from any Costa Rican. They could still be in the country, which is why we alert the population and ask them to provide any information regarding this group through our confidential line,” continued Espinoza.

Frontier’s police as well as the Mexican Police and Public Security have been informed of the case.
