Foreign Couple Victims of Shooting in San Pedro, Costa Rica,

A foreign couple was shot as they were leaving the Italian Embassy in San Pedro, San Jose, Costa Rica this Wednesday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Salvatore Ponzo, an Italian citizen who ran a business in Costa Rica and a woman of last names Lopez Toaquiza from Ecuador who was Ponzo’s girlfriend.

According to a witness the couple left the embassy and were walking to their vehicle when two men in motorcycles shot at them.

Ponzo, 38-years-old was the owner of the company Tierra Nuestra Latina, which is located in San Carlos and exports pineapple and other products, he passed away as he was being transferred to the hospital. Lopez is in the hospital receiving the necessary emergency care.

The couple traveled to Costa Rica at least once a month to follow up on their business but lived the majority of the time abroad.
