Oscar Arias, former two-time president of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace award winner, appeared at the Associate District Attorney Office for Gender matters as part of the investigation regarding two criminal complaints one for rape and another for sexual assault filed against him.

Arias, rejected all charges against him and abstained from making any further statements at the time, however, he did give up his passports voluntarily: “As a sign of respect towards the Public Ministry and with the purpose of showing our disposition and absolute subjugation to the process, we are voluntarily giving up both valid passports, the ordinary one and the diplomatic one”, commented Arias’ attorney, Erick Ramos.

Two criminal complaints filed against Arias, one by Alexandra Arce von Herold , a psychiatrist and nuclear disarmament activist and a second one by former Miss Costa Rica, Yazmin Morales.

Other women have also come out to expose Arias’ sexual misconduct, the latest report was made by a woman named Patricia Volio García, who used to be his personal trainer close to 15 years back. According to Volio, Arias sexually harassed her.

Pilar Baeza, a real estate agent, also declared being victim of sexual misconduct, Baeza declared that she was introduced to him by a friend, and during a conversation at his house he touched her breasts and showed her his penis.

In total 8 women have come forward and spoken up about Arias’ sexual misconduct.
