Costa Rica Will Announce Plan to Reopen Economic Activities May 11

The Government of Costa Rica will announce on Monday, May 11, the plan to gradually re-engage  economic activities and begin the road back to “normalcy”.

“We will reopen economic activities subject to a strict surveillance of sanitary protocols. We will extend the vehicular restriction first. We will open for national tourism, hotels, national parks, commerce, restaurants, theaters and movie theaters. A second phase will involve reopening to international tourism and massive events”, explained the Minister of Planning, Pilar Garrido.

The announcements will be made Monday by President Carlos Alvarado and the Minister of Health Daniel Salas.

The vehicular restrictions that have been in place the past weekends will apply for this Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and May 10, plates ending on an even number (0,2,4,6,8) are restricted on Saturday while cars with plates ending on odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9) are restricted for transit on Sunday.

Costa Rica registers 773 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 364 women and 409 men; 679 Costa Rican and 94 foreigners. 46 patients are already recovered and 10,126 have tested negative.
21 people are hospitalized and 6 of them remain in the intensive care unit.
