This Sunday, July 30, the National Museum in San José will host the “Alma Guanacasteca” festival as part of the activities commemorating the annexation of the Guanacaste province, celebrated July 25th.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and extends through 3 p.m., it includes traditional dances, music, a guided tour through the exhibit of Costa Rica’s History among other samples of the rich Guanacaste culture.

“This celebration is meant to rescue the traditions because if we don’t celebrate the main events of our history a nation without memory loses its identity, this is why it’s important to remember and celebrate these dates”, said María Elena Masís, organizer of the event and member of the Projection Department of the National Museum.

Fifteen artisans from Guanacaste will showcase their products. The entrance to the event is free for nationals and residents with ID, foreigners have to pay $9.00.

The Annexation of Guanacaste is celebrated on July 25 every year, in commemoration of this date in 1824 when the inhabitants of the city of Nicoya and Santa Cruz voted to be part of Costa Rica.
