Continuum Datacenter is being built in trade free zone in Tilarán, Guanacaste and is a project considered of public interests by the administration of President Luis Guillermo Solis.

According to international parameters a project of this kind has to be at a distance of no less than 50 kilometers from the capital, which is why Tilarán is a strategic zone, that also offers security, human resources, low costs and innovation. The idea is for it to become a technological park and to offer a dual system along with Invenio University.

International firms such as VISA and Mastercard are among the first clients, Continuum will function as a Payment Facility Center for these financial entities.

Part of the construction will be done underground, allowing free-cooling and reducing the use of air conditioning systems; the building will be earthquake and flood proof and will also include systems for the use of renewable energy, solar and wind energy, with the purpose of becoming at one point carbon neutral.

“The data center is a great ally for the Invenio University, since we can benefit from each other. In Invenio a student after two years already has the necessary “expertise”, and then they can spend three months at the university and other three months working at Invenio, so they graduate with experience in the area they are learning”, said Alvaro Fernandez, Director of Operations of Continuum Datacenter.

Continuum Datacenter is expected to create initially 300 jobs (directly and indirectly); data from anywhere in the world can be processed here, the technology facility will also offer collocation services, hosting, and scalable managed solutions that can be from something as simple as emails and domains to security operation centers, web services and connectivity, etc. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in June of this year.
