Happy children in Costa Rica

Over the last few years, a lot of attention has been given to the importance of happiness as an intrinsic aspect of life. Many economists and sociologists agree on the concept of Gross National Happiness as a commitment to building a sovereign economy based on the affable well-being of the populace.

It so happens that Costa Rica has been recognized as being among the countries considered to be the happiest in the world; these determinations, which have been made in recent years, are the results of statistical, sociological and econometric surveys. Other countries that make the list of the happiest in the world include Denmark and the Kingdom of Bhutan.

To a certain extent, moving to Costa Rica or to other nations that score high in terms of Gross National Happiness would make sense for people who wish to be happy; however, relocation is not always possible. As a life situation and personality trait, happiness is of a very individual and personal nature, and some medical tourists who come to Costa Rica for anti-aging therapies are being prescribed oxytocin for this purpose.

As recently reported , oxytocin is a neural hormone produced by the hypothalamus and secreted into the bloodstream by the posterior pituitary gland, a pea-sized structure at the base of the brain. It is also produced in lesser quantities in the uterus, ovaries, placenta, testicles, and the heart. This brain chemical is known as the “love” or “happiness” hormone because it is a main component in intimacy and bonding. Even playing with your dog can supposedly cause an oxytocin surge.

Oxytocin is available as part of anti-aging therapies in Costa Rica. It is usually prescribed as a nasal spray or sublingual drops. In 2015, a report on oxytocin by Discovery Magazine was selected as one of its Top 100 stories of the year. Researchers from New York University determined oxytocin seems to amplify social information processed in the brain, which happens when the hormone binds to brain receptors.

In the end, oxytocin is known to increase feelings of love and happiness, creates deeper bonding and affection, reduces fear and blood pressure, relieves pain, lowers stress, and it can be used as an ideal component of an anti-aging treatment in Costa Rica.
