The Legislative Assembly approved in a first debate this Tuesday, June 30th, a bill that proposes moving the national holidays that fall on the weekend to Monday with the purpose of having long weekend and promoting national tourism.

This measure will apply for some holidays starting this year and through 2024 but won’t apply to all holidays in order not to have an impact on the public finances and companies.

The holidays that would be affected for the years 2020 and 2021 would be:

Saturday, July 25, 2020 would be enjoyed on Monday, July 27, 2020
Saturday, August 15, 2020 would be enjoyed Monday, August 17, 2020
Tuesday, September 15, 2020 would be enjoyed Monday, September 14, 2020
Tuesday, December 1, 2020, would be moved to Monday, November 30, 2020.
Saturday, May 1, 2021, would be enjoyed Monday, May 3, 2021.
Sunday, July 25, 2021, would be moved to Monday, July 26, 2021.
Wednesday, September 15, 2021, would be enjoyed Monday, September 13, 2021.
Wednesday, December 1, 2021, would be moved to Monday, November 29, 2021.

The bill needs to be approved in the second debate July 2nd, to go into effect.
