According to a survey carried out by the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels, the majority of the beach hotels in the areas of the Central and North Pacific as well as the Caribbean are registering a high occupancy of between 90-95%.

Although vacationists usually prefer the beach as their tourism destination during Holy Week, other areas also have a good level of occupancy such as mountain hotels in Cartago, also Monteverde in Puntarenas, and Guapiles, Limón, were hotels are confirming up to 70% of reservations.

Holy Week begins March 26 and extends through Sunday, April 1st. As the date approaches hoteliers expect to reach their maximum capacity. Only Thursday and Friday that week are paid holidays. Government offices will remain closed the entire week.

The Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels estimates there are over 35,000 hotel rooms in the country.

The majority of the reservations during this high season are from national tourists, which account for up to 60%.

The fact that the second round of presidential elections in Costa Rica is scheduled for April 1st doesn’t seem to have affected the vacation plans of many.
