Road blocks in several areas of Nicaragua, particularly 52 kilometers North from Managua, in the area known as Las Maderas have had hundreds of trailer and cargo trucks from different Central American countries stuck for days.

According to Francisco Quiros, executive director of the National Chamber of Cargo Drivers, close to 100 trucks from Costa Rica have been stuck for almost a week now in precarious conditions.

Panamanian newspaper La Prensa, has also reported in this situation that is affecting hundreds of truckers, not just from Panama and Costa Rica, but also Honduras, El Salvador and from local Nicaraguans.

The road blocks are part of the measures being used by Nicaraguan citizens to call on the government to stop the repression.

The Central American country is putting their food production for local consumption and exports at risk, with farmers focused on protesting and road blocks that are causing the loss of millions of dollars not just for Nicaragua but also for the rest of the Central American countries affected by the road blocks and insecurity.

The crisis in Nicaragua that started almost two months ago, has left so far over 135 deaths according to the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (CENIDH).

Nicaraguan citizens are suffering the effects of this crisis, that has not only caused pain to a lot of families due to the confrontations between the army and the protesters but is also taking a toll in the economy of the country where many businesses have been forced to closed doors, the tourism has plummet and exports are suffering.

The General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) approved this week the “declaration of support for the people of Nicaragua”, calling for the immediate cessation of acts of violence in the country.
