Costa Rica Confirms First Case of Coronavirus Via Tourist From United States

The Ministry of Health in Costa Rica confirmed this Friday, March 6, the first case of coronavirus Covid-19 in the country.
The patient is a 49-year old American tourist who entered the country in March 1st without any symptoms.

Apparently, it was her husband who was actually in contact with someone in New York infected with the virus, prior to them traveling to Costa Rica, and who at the time had no knowledge of having the virus. The man, however, has not presented any symptoms, instead it was his wife who was affected.

Daniel Salas, Minister of Health, also confirmed that the other two cases that were under investigation tested negative.

The couple from New York is staying in a hotel in San Jose, their identity has been kept confidential for security reasons.

Five people who were in contact with the couple are currently under observation as well as 152 people that were aboard the same flight.

Salas and the President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, insisted in the importance of not panicking and simply having good habits when it comes to hand-washing, proper forms of sneezing and coughing, etc.
