In response to fake news circulating on social media regarding the “rationing” of fuel, the state refinery (RECOPE) clarified that the company has enough fuel supply of the main fuel products at each of their facilities to satisfy the demand.

According to Recope, the distribution of products through the fuel pipeline has normalized 15 days ago and the pumping of Plus 91, Super, Diesel and aviation fuel is guaranteed in the facilities of El Alto (Ochomogo, Cartago), La Garita (Alajuela) and Barranca (Puntarenas).

The company also calls on the population to remain calm and not store fuel in containers at their home or places of business since this practice represents a security risk.

All Recope facilities are operating normally, Recope assures.

Recope has also been working together with the Ministry of Security in several cases of illegal takings of the fuel pipeline. The most recent cases involved an illegal taking in the area of San Rafael, Barranca, Puntarenas were Recope authorities together with the Fire Department worked on repairing the perforation on the pipeline, and another in Turrialba, where police authorities found a leak in the oil pipeline and a truck with international plates loaded with nine jerrycans, eight empty and one of them filled with fuel, as well as hoses and tools. Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) are investigating this and other cases that have come to light recently.
