The request under code sharing presented by the companies was approved by the Technical Council of Civil Aviation. A codeshare agreement between two airlines, allow these to share the same flight under their own airline designator and flight number, opening new destinations for travelers.

Currently Emirates Airlines offers five flights a week from Dubai to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the same number between Dubai and Orlando, Florida, plus one daily flight connecting Dubai and New York City, NY (JFK); these flights will be connecting with JetBlue’s flights going from San Jose, Costa Rica to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, and from Liberia, Guanacaste to New York City (JFK).

In the case of Liberia-New York, the Costa Rican Tourism Board had announced a few weeks back the service of JetBlue’s MINT plane starting December 15, 2018.
“Emirates is one of the most sophisticated airlines in the world, with a fleet of 244 airplanes, all of them Airbus 380 or Boing 777-300, that connect with more than 160 countries directly or in shared flights. It uses the Dubai International Airport as main operations base through which a total 78 million people traveled last year. It will facilitate the direct connection for Costa Rica to Dubai and through there to markets and destinations in the Middle and Far East and Africa, opening an important niche for the attraction of tourism and investments for the country”, states the press release.

Dubai is the largest city in the UAE, on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is known to be a luxurious destination.

“This is the first step in a long road that awaits us to open the middle east market and other destinations. We have the hope that in a midterm we start penetrating in different markets with effective actions that promote traveling to the middle east and other destinations already identified for connections that would include India, South Africa, Australia and some regions of Asia”, said Maria Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism.

Citizens of Costa Rica and the UAE do not require visas to travel between both countries.
