A young forward-striker from Costa Rica is making quite an impression in the prestigious Bartclays English Premier League. As recently explained by sports writer Max Jones of Arsenal.com:

Arsène Wenger says Joel Campbell is proving he has the talent to be a key player for Arsenal.

The Costa Rica forward has impressed for the Gunners during his first full campaign, claiming two goals and an assist in his last four games.

“He shows slowly, game by game, that he has the talent to do it,” Wenger said. “If you look at his numbers since he played, you look at the number of goals he has scored and the number of assists he has given, you can say it is much better than people think it is.

“The other night, the ball he gives for the second goal absolutely shows that there is something special in him. On top of that I think he is a guy who puts his body on the line for the team. He works really hard. He is not only a player who shows talent but he is a guy who puts a shift in for the team.”

Wenger is referring to Campbell’s masterful play setting up French teammate Olivier Giroud for a second goal against Olympiakos earlier this week. The Greek club happens to be where Campbell spent a good part of a season on loan from Arsenal. Now that the two clubs are engaged in the European Champions League, the experience acquired by Campbell while on loan is proving to be very valuable for Arsenal.

In the last couple of matches with the National Football Team of Costa Rica, Campbell has also been displaying crowd-pleasing flashes of brilliance as well as a renewed confidence now that he has shaken off a goal drought that plagued him for several months.
