Costa Rica Air Fare DealBlack Friday and Cyber Monday may represent the last opportunity of the year for frugal travelers to get significant discounts on their trips to Costa Rica.

As the green (rainy) season comes to an end, the high season for tourism begins in Costa Rica, and all the discounts of the past few months seem to evaporate as the year-end holidays approach. The two major travel expenses, airfare and hotel accommodations, will adjust upward from now until the rains return in about six months.

As recently reported by The Costa Rica Star, two vacation and travel providers have taken advantage of the Black Friday annual shopping extravaganza to offer discounts on airfare and tourism packages to Costa Rica. It so happens that these two providers cater to Canadian tourists: Sunwing Airlines and Signature Vacations. Now comes Alaska Airlines, which recently inaugurated service to Costa Rica.

In a recent press release by Alaska Airlines, vice president of marketing Sangita Woerner urged travelers to “Mark your calendars now, because our biggest sale of the year is just two days away. We can’t reveal any of the details yet, but we promise you will find amazing deals to inspiring places.”

Cyber Monday is the logical successor to Black Friday; it takes place on the first Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, and it invites shoppers to find discounts and deals online. Many analysts believe that Cyber Monday is an even greater windfall for retailers that do not have to worry about brick-and-mortar overhead expenses.

Alaska Airlines seems to be one of the few carriers starting Cyber Monday a little earlier; specifically on Sunday at 5:00 pm, Pacific Standard Time; however, air travel specialists are seeing early discount action taking place at major booking engines such as Hopper.com and Kayak.com.

A few days ago, popular travel blog Airfare Watchdog found a great deal on United: Non-stop service from Newark to Costa Rica departing on Tuesday, February 2nd and returning on Sunday, February 7th for just $273.82. For travelers who use their Mileage Plus Explorer credit card, a $50 statement credit could be applied for a total of just $223.82. this particular deal applied to the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste, which happens to be the most expensive in Costa Rica.

Airlines have not been very active in advertising Cyber Monday deals; it is possible that they expect news media outlets to report on this sales event. At any rate, travelers looking for discounts on airfare to Costa Rica should start checking now and continue until Monday night, for this may the last time they get to see special offers this year.
