Hollywood actress and tabloid mainstay Lindsay Lohan will celebrate New Year’s Eve in Costa Rica, specifically in the Guanacaste Gold Coast. According to various social media updates posted by the star of films such as Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, Chapter 27, and A Prairie Home Companion, she is currently staying at a luxury resort in Bahia Salinas.

In a video uploaded to Instagram and cross-posted to Twitter, Miss Lohan explained that she was staying at a beautiful place and planning to enjoy the beach while starting the New Year with a clean slate and a good intention “just as Oprah told me.” Miss Lohan is probably referring to a video conferencing session she claims to have shared with U.S. media empress Oprah Winfrey during Christmas.

At this time, it is not known whether Miss Lohan is traveling by herself or with companions; she usually enjoys spending time with family. A year ago, Miss Lohan made medical headlines after becoming infected with the Chikungunya virus, which is often transmitted by the pesky Aedes aegypti mosquito, during a trip to French Polynesia.

It so happens that Miss Lohan is staying in the Guanacaste region, which is a focal point of Chikungunya, dengue, Zika and other nasty tropical diseases transmitted by vectors such as Aedes aegypti in Costa Rica. Chickungunya is similar to dengue in terms of unbearable pain that can last a few days, but it is not usually fatal. Joint paint caused by Chickungunya may last for weeks.

When Miss Lohan was diagnosed with Chickungunya, she gave advice to millions of her social media followers: “use bug spray, please.” Miss Lohan should heed her own advice and apply mosquito and paparazzi repellent while celebrating New Year’s Eve in Costa Rica, although she is more likely to contract dengue and not Chickungunya since recovery from the latter often results in lifelong immunity.
