For some open-minded users of mobile technology, three is not a crowd.

A new mobile dating app geared towards the polyamorous recently completed a venture funding round and is gaining popularity. Similar to Tinder and Grindr, 3ndr is a mobile app that enables sexual encounters and dating based on factors related to proximity, gender identity, and sexual preference; it also makes use of the popular swipe and tap touchscreen gestures, but what makes this app stand out is the number of participants that can be arranged per encounter.

According to information posted on the 3nder website, the apps allows users to “Look around you and discover pretty faces with kinky minds. Message each other only if you match. You also have unlimited likes.”

For the time being, 3nder is only available for Apple iOS devices such as the iPhone and the iPad; however, the developer recently completed a significant round of venture funding and could soon be available on Android. During a recent interview with respected tech news site Re/code, 3nder founder explained his intention and plans after securing half a million dollars from investors:

“I wanted to create this minimal, futuristic product. All these sites for swingers, “have-a-threesome-dot-com” and all this kind of crap — they all use super-outdated technology. They have this scammy business plan where they create fake users to generate revenue from men, so this is how they survive. [3nder is] affordable, there’s nothing sexualized. We don’t have naked girls, we don’t advertise naked girls.”

According to a late 2015 article published by British newspaper The Standard, founder Dimo Trifonov:

“wants to repurpose the threesome, taking it away from pornography. He wants to give a “new name” to the liberated sexual landscape. He says that he was “disturbed by the offerings” that target young men with images of sexy women and says “people like Ashley Madison are abusing their market, abusing their users”.
