Officers from Costa Rica’s regional anti-drug program (PRAD, in Spanish) chased a vehicle Sunday night from La Sabana park just west of downtown San José to Alto Palomas in Pozos, Santa Ana, a suburb about 12 kms west of San José, reported the Public Security Ministry yesterday.

They detained a gray Mitsubishi Outlander which was driven by a 46-year old Costa Rican man named Quirós.

After a few minutes of searching the vehicle, they discovered packets of cocaine hidden in the roof space of the vehicle.

Quirós, who was charged with rape in 2015, is being held in this latest arrest at the San José Public Prosecutor’s office to determine whether restraining measures will be applied, said the Ministry press office.

After the arrest, officers from the drug control police unit (PCD) seized and thoroughly searched the vehicle, and confirmed that the cocaine hidden totalled 106 kilos.

Quirós was not carrying any weapons, and has three thousand colones and sixty dollars on him, related the Ministry.
