In view of the alert in Costa Rica due to Otto storm/hurricane, Avianca, Lacsa, and Albatros airlines had to cancel eight of their flights to and from Costa Rica, Juan Santamaria Airport.

Flights with destinations: San Andres, Bogota, Guatemala and Venezuela were cancelled by the airlines and they have informed travelers that those who already had a ticket will not be charged additional fees to reprogram their trip, but they will have to reschedule within the next 30 days. The affected flights were scheduled for today (Wednesday, Nov.23) and likely will affect flights scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, November 24th.

Flights to and from San Andres Island had to be cancelled because Colombian authorities were forced to shut down the Gustavo Rojas Pinilla Airport in San Andres.

At this moment, no other flights have been affected because of the hurricane alert, yet this could change depending on the evolution of the storm and the weather conditions in the country within the next hours.

Delays or cancellation of flights could take place if the airport operator decides to shut down or also if an airline independently decides not to fly to Costa Rica due to bad weather conditions.

Airport authorities recommend that travelers check with their airline several hours before their flight to make sure their itinerary remains unchanged.
