Almost two years after his retirement, Floyd Mayweather shocked the world of combat sports by announcing today that he will indeed come back to fight one more time, and he will be taking on none other than MMA star Conor McGregor.
Many in the industry, and fans around the world considered this fight “ridiculous” from the moment the possibility of it was mentioned, others saw it as a money-making event, one of the most controversial and popular names in boxing against the charismatic Irish.
Just a month ago, the UFC lightweight champion and Dana White, president of the UFC, confirmed that McGregor had signed the fight contract, and it was just a matter of getting Mayweather Jr. to agree; yet, considering there has been talk about this fight for almost two years now and considering that Mayweather was going to want a very attractive deal, it is safe to say many had doubts about this fight ever happening.
The fight is set for August 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada; the venue has not been announced, and in case you are wondering this will be a boxing match.
Floyd Mayweather, retired in September 2015 with a perfect 49-0 record, he is 40-years-old and since his retirement he has stayed busy with his personal businesses including his boxing promotional company.
Conor McGregor, is 28 years-of-age and has a record of 21 wins and 3 losses in mixed martial arts, he has decent punching power as he has proved many times in the octagon, but the question remains if his boxing skills will allow him to go the distance with one of the best defensive boxers we have seen in the past couple of decades.
The wold of combat sports has seen a former professional boxer beat an MMA champion; will we see the opposite happen, can McGregor beat Floyd Mayweather? And will the fight live up to the expectations or turn out to be another disappointment for boxing fans?
