Information released by Channel 7 regarding the drug trafficking cell associated with a Mexican cartel operating in Costa Rica   which was dismantled by the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) on May 26, used helicopters to move the drugs between Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica.

Channel 7 (Telenoticias) reports, numerous videos and photos were found on cell phones seized by the police, some of them showed how the Bell 407 choppers were modified and adapted for this use, one of the videos shows the complete route one of the helicopters takes.

Costa Rican police intervened helipads in places of difficult access in the areas of Parismina, Siquirres, Pococi, Boca Tapada and Cutris, looking for the choppers, evidence or members of the organization but they only found camps with firearms and cell phones.

Investigations have concluded that the organization is formed by Mexicans, Colombians, Panamanians, Guatemalan, Costa Ricans and Hondurans.

Authorities do not rule out that police officers or former police officers were assisting the operation by offering security at the helipads and clandestine landing strips.

The group was operating in the country since 2015.
