The district attorney’s office is investigating the acts of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Vice-President of the country, Epsy Campbell, in regards to “irregular” designations made over the past weeks.

The situation came to light after media outlets released the information of Campbell’s decision to name people to positions with a certain closeness, relation or affinity to her.

Campbell has defended her actions and affirmed that each process was carried out with transparency and that all candidates fulfilled the necessary requirements for the position they were selected for. She appeared in front of the Public Income and Expenses Commission in Congress where she presented documentation and answered the questions of the different deputies with regards to the naming of at least ten former ministers of the previous administration (of the same political party (PAC) Campbell is a part off) as well as other members of the Citizens’ Action Party (PAC) and the hiring of a relative as one of her advisers, among other irregularities.

“I celebrate the opening of an investigation by the Public Ministry so that the legality of the acts and designations carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is absolutely clear as I demonstrated in my appearance in front of the Public Income and Expense Commission in Congress, where I presented all the documentation that backs my actions”, stated the Minister.

Campbell also reaffirmed her disposition to contribute with the investigation so that the situation is resolved as soon as possible.
President Carlos Alvarado also released a statement in which he says that “For the Costa Rican Government the prompt and total clarification of the actions under investigation is extremely important”.
