As of this coming Friday, the Moin Container Terminal in Limón will be ready to receive commercial boats as its first berth is ready to operate.

The Moín megaport, is built over a 40 hectare artificial island,it will be equipped with six port cranes which are unique in the country and will allow Costa Rica to provide for the first time services to Post-Panamex vessels with capacity for 8,500 + containers.

Scheduled to be completely ready to be inaugurated by February 2019, the Moin Container Terminal will be able to receive ships with 22 lines of containers and generate an record activity of over 30 movements per hour of load and unload, increasing considerably the efficiency in the attention to vessels.

With an investment of approximately $1 billion dollars, the port is expected to put Costa Rica on the world logistics map.
The National Concessions Council received this Monday this stage of the work and according to the concession contract with APM Terminals, the company can begin operation on this first berth five days after it has been concluded and after guaranteeing a safe and efficient operation.

In this first stage the terminal will slowly start receiving some vessels with the purpose of ensuring that everything is working properly including equipment, systems and personnel and in this way the operation of the terminal is ready to work in full by the time its inaugurated.

The moment the concessionaire starts receiving ships they will also begin paying the set fee to the Atlantic Zone Development and Port Administration Group (JAPDEVA). The terminal will be exploited ruing the first 30 years by the concessionaire and at that moment it will pass to the control of the Government.
