Fabiane Niclotti, who was crowned Miss Brazil 2004, was found dead inside her apartment in Gramado, a city in Rio Grande do Sul state, but there were no signs of violence, police said Wednesday.

The 31-year-old model’s brother called police because she was not answering her telephone.

Police found Niclotti’s body on Tuesday night and there were no signs of forced entry or violence at her apartment, investigators said.

Niclotti competed in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant in Quito, but she did not win.

After the contest, she lived for several months in London, where she studied English.

National broadcaster Globo in Brazil explained that former beauty queens from Rio Grande do Sul expressed their condolences.

A detective from the local Civil Police division was quoted by Globo explaining that a preliminary investigation indicates the possibility of suicide.

Medications to treat depression and over-the-counter analgesics were found in Niclotti’s home, but detectives have not yet ruled out the possibility of foul play.

Marthina Brandt, Miss Brazil 2015, was hoping to meet the late Niclotti at the upcoming state pageant. Rio Grande do Sul has a long tradition of producing many beauty queens.
According to her Miss Brazil biography, Niclotti was 19 years old when she represented her country at the Miss Universe pageant, where she had high hopes of being crowned.

Upon returning from London, she would enroll at a state university in Rio Grande do Sul to study Social Sciences.

Niclotti was also a pageant judge during the 2012 Mrs. Universe.
