According to an official press release (PDF) from the National Chamber of Tourism in Costa Rica (CANATUR in Spanish), a new mobile app for Android-powered smartphones and the Apple iDevices will allow users to find out more about special offers and promotions.

The name of the app is Toditico, which is a colloquial diminutive for “absolutely everything.” Toditico can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store and Google Play marketplace. Juan Carlos Ramos, president of CANATUR, explained that the app seeks to give a competitive advantage to tourism operators in Costa Rica with regard to the different products and packages they offer:

“CANATUR is betting on these tools to create a marketing channel that provides not just general information about the tourism businesses, but also to bring special offers, discounts and incentives for people to engage in tourism.”

Around 40 businesses have already signed up to offer deals through this app. One of the companies is Veragua Rainforest. Rocio Lopez, commercial director at Veragua indicated that the app is an innovative initiative towards promoting the domestic tourism industry in Costa Rica.

The content currently available in Toditico is organized into different categories like lodging, tour operators, travel agencies, rent a car, restaurants, medical tourism, and others. Users can search for specific information or browse by province. One of the major advantages of this app is that the tourism businesses will have the opportunity to update their information and offerings at any time. Users can find information on more than 800 businesses.

The Toditico app is currently at version 1.0. The next release will offer expanded multimedia content and social media integration.
