Oakland, California, Apr 8 (EFE; odds by IDSca.com).– The Golden State Warriors became just the second team in NBA history to win 70 regular-season games, reaching that milestone with a 112-101 victory over one of their main Western Conference rivals, the San Antonio Spurs.

With the win, the Warriors (70-9) kept alive the possibility of breaking the Michael Jordan-led 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls’ record for most wins (72) in a season; doing so would require them to win road games on Saturday and Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies and the Spurs and then defeat the Grizzlies at home on Wednesday, April 13.

By defeating the Spurs on Thursday night at Oracle Arena in Oakland, the defending champions also clinched the top seed in the West and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs for the second straight season.

Superstar point guard Stephen Curry led the way with 27 points and nine assists for the home team, while small forward Harrison Barnes added 21 points.

The Warriors came into the game with some question marks after losing contests at the Oracle on April 1 and April 5 against the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves, respectively, their only two home losses all season.

But a 14-0 run in the second quarter gave them a double-digit lead, and the game was never in doubt after that.

With this historic victory, the Warriors have surpassed the Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers in relation to their odds to win the NBA Finals.
