Duron Harmon, the American football player who plays safety for the New England Patriots, was denied entry to Costa Rica after officers found marijuana in his luggage.

The 27-year-old athlete attempted to enter the country through the Juan Santamaria Airport, but in a routine check airport police found in his luggage 58 grams of marijuana inside a can of iced tea; he was also carrying three pipes with cannabis oil, a THC candy and four glass containers with compressed marijuana that weighed 4.3 grams.

Although the quantities are not big, he was temporarily detained and then sent back to the United States.

Harmon, or “The Closer” as he was nicknamed in the NFL, was flying in from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida, USA,

“This involved a professional NFL player, who tried to come into the country carrying marijuana. We has sent back to US territory. It is important to highlight the work of different police bodies, who carry out important operations in different areas of the country. We want to prevent undesirable people from entering the country”, stated Irving Malespín, director of the Fiscal Control Police who also explained the police has been doing routine checks of flights coming from the United States as part of the actions prior to Holy Week when many Americans visit the country for “spring break”.
