Nicoyans came out by the dozens to celebrate, together with teachers, students and stakeholders, the inauguration of a new library for the city this past Thursday November 15th.

Song and speech kicked off the plan to create a new library, steps away from the municipality office in Nicoya, and to bring new tools, resources, and information-gathering capabilities to the people of Nicoya and the surrounding townships.

The inauguration highlighted an effort by the municipality to upgrade learning resources for the town, and is being touted by Mayor Marcos Jimenez as a part of the path to continue with the development of the city.

“This library will be a resource for Nicoyans,” said Jimenez as he addressed the assembled crowd. “A place where children, youth and adults will be able to learn and to research with access to the latest technologies.”

Amongst the speeches made throughout the event, attendees were treated to musical performances from Nicoyan guitarist and singer Max Goldberg, a reading performance from a children’s audio book entitled “The Happy Mosquito”, and snacks and refreshments following the proceedings.

The Felipe Diaz Vidaurre Library, expected to be fully completed in June 2013, will boast a resource centre equipped with modern computers, reference materials, delivery of books, information distribution services, as well as free-to-use internet.
