Los Angeles, Aug 1 (EFE).– Spanish actor Antonio Banderas will play the lead character in the TV series “Havana Quartet,” based on the Mario Conde police procedural thrillers created by Cuban journalist Leonardo Padura, the Starz channel’s CEO Chris Albrecht announced.

Banderas and Cuba’s “Magic City” author Eduardo Machado are executive producers of the series, while Machado will pen the screenplay guided by Padura’s four who-done-it novels “Pasado Perfecto,” “Vientos de Cuaresma,” “Mascaras” and “Paisaje de Otoño.”

The name of the series, “Havana Quartet,” comes from the English-language versions of these four works: “Havana Blue,” “Havana Gold,” “Havana Red” and “Havana Black.”

Starz aims to shoot the series in Cuba, Albrecht was cited as saying by the online entertainment portal Deadline.

The plot tracks the sleuthing of Cuban detective Mario Conde, a would-be writer who had to settle for being a police gumshoe, and is set on the Caribbean island in the 1990s. EFE
