Coffee is of course, one of many things Costa Rica is famous for, it’s part of the country’s history, economy ,culture and  probably the most popular beverage in the country, ticos call it colloquially “yodo”.

According to travel magazine, Lonely Planet, Costa Rica also has one of the best coffee shops in the world. The proud holder of this distinction is Cafetería Privilegios, located in Santa María de Dota.

The coffee served here is of their production, Coffee Cooperative of Dota (COOPEDOTA), and has a tradition of over eleven years. Enjoying a cup of coffee here has a completely different flavor, not just because of its high quality but also because the coffee shop is located in a beautiful area surrounded by nature and fresh air.

COOPEDOTA, a cooperative that involves over 900 Costa Rican coffee farmers, was actually the first in the world to achieve carbon neutrality certification for its coffee beans. The coffee produced in this area of Costa Rica is considered among the world’s finest, and a large percentage of their production is exported to Europe, North America and Asia.

Whether you like the classic cup of black coffee, or you enjoy trying different combinations of hot and/or cold coffee, Privilegios Coffee Shop has a wide selection for you to choose from; the personnel will guide you through the different options and methods used to prepare it. They even offer a tour called “Coffee Experience” that will show you their whole process.

If you can’t go all the way to Santa María de Dota, Privilegios also has two other coffee shops, one located in San Pedro and the other one in Cartago.
