SAN JOSE – Members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SPCS) are following President Laura Chinchilla‘s agenda in Europe to plan their efforts to release Paul Watson from custody and avoid his extradition to Costa Rica. On Saturday, May 19th, the SPCS issued an official press release announcing “S.O.S. Day – Save Our Skipper – Wednesday May 23rd.”
On the official release, the SPCS claims a victory with regard to the German court’s decision to grant Mr. Watson bail, but the marine environmentalist organization warns his supporters that there is more work to be done:
“[…] the battle to save his life must now intensify.”
The release urges followers to contact German diplomatic corps and authorities in different countries:
“All around the world, Sea Shepherds will be making our voices heard at German embassies and consulates between 1100 and 1300 hours (local time). Organize or join the cacophony of voices at the closest German embassy or consulate and demand Captain Paul Watson’s freedom. We are confident that through your participation Germany will not carry out an extradition that would be the same as carrying out a death sentence.”
With regard to President Laura Chinchilla’s agenda in Germany, SPCS makes the following call:
“There is no location more important to assemble than where President Chinchilla will begin her head of state visit in Berlin. This meeting will open with full military honors 11:00 am at Schloss Bellevue. Rally to Captain Paul Watson’s side when he personally makes his stand at Schloss Bellevue.”
Prior to her meeting with President Joachim Gauck at the Bellevue Palace, President Chinchilla is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation in Berlin. The event is titled: “Costa Rica, a democracy towards a green society, prosperous and innovative.” She will later meet with her counterpart in Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Mr. Watson remains in custody in Frankfurt, awaiting deposit of a bond in the amount of 250,000 euros.
