Since 2004, alternative rock band The Movement in Codes has mostly been playing and recording hardcore punk. Most of the songs crafted by this band from Costa Rica are written in English, and in 2008 they were very close to landing a spot in the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago: They entered a contest to play the festival as an audience favorite, but in the end they were not chosen by the official judges. This close encounter with Lollapalooza brought them closer to the punk scene in Chicago, which lead them to open for Rise Against in 2012.

 

Earlier this year, The Movement in Codes released One More Day, their third full album, which includes the single herein. Open Sky is an emotional appeal to feeling good and being a good person in the face of adversity, and it is a departure from the band’s usual hardcore repertoire. Open Sky is full of jangly guitars and softly sung lyrics, and the video pays tribute to people who help others with small, yet meaningful, deeds.
