Around 6:29 a.m. this Friday, the Poás Volcano had a new eruption that lasted for close to 10 minutes and was captured by the cameras of the National Seismology Network (RSN); the eruption concluded with the emanation of reddish colored ash.

The color, according to Dr. Mauricio Mora from the RSN obeys to an oxidation process which is normal and has been occurring for several weeks. The coloration can be seen at the peak of the crater, however, once it is dispersed by the wind it can no longer be noticed.

The activity at the volcano remains constant which has resulted in the closure of the National Park for safety reasons, this has had a negative effect in the businesses nearby that depend on tourism.

Since this Thursday the volcano maintains gas emissions and strong fumarole activity; the gas column reached heights of as much as 1 kilometer and has been dispersed by the wind with direction southwest to northeast.

The Turrialba volcano on the other hand also presented activity this Thursday with a small eruption that reached 300 meters above the crater.
