President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, described the “strike” called by members of the labor unions for this Monday, September 10th, “unjustified, improper and illegal”.

Alvarado will be presenting the formal request to the court in hopes to declare the movement illegal, he stated that paralyzing the services and affecting millions of Costa Rican is not a solution, “this country must continue working and it is my job and the job of my Government’s team to assure that this is the case”.

The President defends the fiscal plan brought forward as the only way to avoid an “imminent crisis”, he mentioned that during his campaign he was always clear about his commitment and position regarding the fiscal reform of Costa Rica.

“My government together with the current deputies are taking the responsible road by handling this problem that has been delayed for decades”, affirmed the President.

Alvarado called on all public employees to show up to work tomorrow; he also reminded the labor unions that “the doors of the Government are still open to dialogue”.

“Affecting those on their way to work, children that could not receive their classes, as well as those that await medical attention and those that are producing, “is not the Costa Rican way. The majority of Costa Ricans do not want to go down that path”, he said.
